In this ecosystem, the lack of trees is due to the scarcity of rain, the herbivores’ pasturage and fires. The herbivores, that for centuries have been contributing to preserve this biome, preventing it turning into a forest, were bison in North-America, guanacos in South-America, horses and saiga antelopes in Eurasia and kangaroos in Australia.
