Evolution of fungi

It is believed that ascomycetes and basidiomycetes derive from a common ancestral form, and that the said form and zygomycetes in turn evolved from another common ancestor. Mycetes, for which asexual reproduction has been observed are classified as imperfect fungi. Source : Helena Curtis, N. S.
