Photovoltaic panels illuminate the Antarctic
Spain's Antarctic station Gabriel de Castilla will be powered by solar energy. In fact, by the end of December, a shipment of photovoltaic modules will reach the Spanish base on Deception Island. Inaugurated in 1988 as a refuge, the station currently carries out scientific activities such as environmental and climate monitoring, cartography, geomagnetism and marine biology. The two photovoltaic systems to be installed will power the measuring equipment in the five months that the Sun is always above the horizon, that is, during the austral summer from November to March. In this period, the system will be able to produce electricity all day long.
