Water and agriculture

The use of water in farming is the most important human use and involves two thirds of the fresh water available all over the world. In this case, water is basically used for irrigation. Very often, however, man has to take action to carry water where it is needed by changing the natural courses of the rivers and building artificial canals. The amount of water needed in farming depends on many factors, such as the climate, the nature of the soil, the farming practices, the methods of irrigation, the types of cultivations and many others.
