Environmental effects

Energy is strictly linked to the environment. The use of energy slightly modifies the environment and the effects can be seen at local, regional and global level. As it is a planetary, national, regional, but also individual problem, the preservation of the environment has become a primary objective to be reached when applying the different energy systems. In order to guarantee the well-being of future generations, there is a need for a different type of development, which consumes energy better (rational use), a reduction in energy use (efficient technologies and fewer losses) and methods that are different from the current ones. As regards environment and energy, one of the most serious and widely known problems is that of the “greenhouse gases”, mainly caused by the energy production by means of the combustion of coal, oil and gas. The road towards the solution of the problem of environmental pollution is still long, however many steps were taken to achieve an international agreement. Since 1972 many conferences have been held and many international agreements signed on the protection of the environment and many of them dealt with issues connected to the use of energy and sustainable development.
