The red squirrel and the grey squirrel

Red squirrels live in Italy in three subspecies across the peninsula but not on the islands. At present, red squirrel populations are quickly decreasing in those areas where grey squirrels have been stocked because the 2 species are direct competitors. Red squirrels (Sciurus vulgaris) are protected, so they cannot be hunted and cannot be raised in captivity. Search: Eniscuola
