Pioneers of solar energy

Charles Greeley Abbott, astrophysicist at the famous ‘Smithsonian Institute’ research centre, in the United States, was a pioneer of the studies on the development of the solar energy. Here we can see him on the occasion of a scientific conference in Atlantic City (New Jersey, United States) in 1936, while showing the functioning of a solar energy machine. This is one of the many experimental machines built by Abbott that, eliminating the faults and improving the efficiency of the first prototypes, have been useful to get to the modern technologies.
