Panda

The giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca, Davidvid 1869 ), is a mammal belonging to the family Ursidae. Native to central China, it lives in the mountainous region of Sichuan. Since the second half of the 20th Century, the panda has become a national emblem for China and is currently depicted on Chinese gold coins. Moreover it has become the symbol of the WWF. Giant pandas are an endangered species, threatened by continued habitat impoverishment and a very low birth rate.
