Oil, the world top 10 importers (2016)
The graph shows the top 10 countries that import crude oil and non-conventional oil and the total imports in the rest of the world in 2016. As can be seen from the graph, Italy is in eighth place. In fact, while Italy does not have significant reserves of hydrocarbons, it has a petroleum production (equal to 74 thousand barrels/day) which covers only 5.8% of domestic consumption, equal to 1,267 thousand barrels a day. Italy, therefore, must import 94.2% of the oil it consumes. Total crude oil and non-conventional oil imports in the world were around 45 million barrels a day.
