Decay of the boson into photons

Graph showing the events observed by CMS and ATLAS in the two-photon decay channel. The ATLAS and CMS detectors observed a peak in the events (the bump) due to the decay of the Higgs boson into photons, an excess signal above the background made by photons produced mainly by the proton-proton collisions. The peak is around 125 GeV. Source: http://cms.web.cern.ch and atlas.web.cern.ch
