New record for solar energy
Good news from the solar energy world. In fact, in occasion of the World Future Energy Summit (held in Abu Dhabi), researchers of First Solar, an American company leader in solar panel production announced that they have beaten the world record for Cadmium telluride (CdTe) photovoltaic solar module efficiency. First Solar has managed to achieve a 14.4% efficiency in converting sunlight, breaking the previous record of 13.4%. The results are promising and highlight the enormous potential of CdTe compared to silicon-based technologies. The excellent performance was verified and confirmed by the National Renewable Energy Lab, the research institute affiliated to the U.S. Department of Energy.
