Solar bridge crosses the Thames

The Victorian bridge over the Thames in London, on which the new station of Blackfriars has been built, is about to become the biggest integrated photovoltaic power station in town. In fact, yesterday, work began to install over 4,400 photovoltaic panels that cover a total surface of 6 thousand square metres. It is estimated that the “solar bridge” will generate about 900 thousand kWh of electricity per year, supplying 50% of the station's energy and reducing annual CO2 emissions by about 511 tonnes. In addition to the solar panels, other energy saving measures will be adopted, such as the installation of a system to collect rain water and sun pipes to provide more natural lighting.
