Extraction and uses
Treatment and storage
After being extracted crude oil is a mixture of gases and liquids which need to be separated and purified before being injected into their respective pipelines. In general those operations are carried out in dedicated collection centres or in the production platforms themselves. The oil needs to be separated from the seawater and needs to be desulphurized. Then, before reaching refineries via oil tankers and pipelines, it is stored in dedicated tanks equipped with cooling and fire prevention plants as well as a containment basins in case of leaks.Related topics
