Decomposing organisms

The ability to destroy organic matter has been used by man, since the enzymes contained in the fungal cells can quickly destroy wood, paper, leather, cotton, paints and even films, as well as a number of foodstuffs. For instance, fungi can produce a molecule (laccase) which can destroy lignin, an essential component of wood. In this way, they can trigger a total degradation of wood.
